چکیده

An osseous tissue represents a specific repository of many metals. Some of them are physiologically accumulated in the skeleton, while others remain in the bones as a result of exposure and can be the cause of pathological states. The aim of this study was to determine the occurrence and co-occurrence of As with trace elements in the femur head; analyzing their concentration in male and female femur head morphological sections in relation to established As contents in air dust in different locations in Silesia. The statistical characteristics of the occurrence of the element was determined using ICP (inductively coupled plasma), the spectrometry method with an Optima 3000 DV (Perkin-Elmer) apparatus. The average geometric mean values detected were the same for male and female subjects in the articular cartilage (0.09 μg As/g), cortical bone (0.16 μg As/g and 0.09 in the male and female subjects, respectively), and trabecular bone (0.07 μg As/g for females 0.09 μg As/g for males). The arsenic concentrations in the specified sections of the femur head were lower than those reported in previous publications.

Effects of Hip Geometry on Fracture Patterns of Proximal Femur

Background: Some studies have previously shown that geometry of proximal femur can affect the probability of fracture and type of fracture. It happens since the geometry of the proximal femur determines how a force is applied to its different parts. In this study, we have compared proximal femur’s geometric characteristics in femoral neck (FNF), intertrochanteric (ITF) and Subtrochanteric (ST...

High Serum Alpha-2-Macroglobulin Level in Patients with Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head

Background: Diagnosis of osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is complicated due to the lack of reliable serum biomarkers. Up-regulation of alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) gene has been reported in glucocorticoid-induced ANFH rat model. This study aimed to investigate whether the serum level of alpha-2-macroglobulin (A2M) can be used for ONFH diagnosis. Methods: Serum protein capillary elect...

Finite Element Analysis of Different Hip Implant Designs along with Femur under Static Loading Conditions

Background: The hip joint is the largest joint after the knee, which gives stability to the whole human structure. The hip joint consists of a femoral head which articulates with the acetabulum. Due to age and wear between the joints, these joints need to be replaced with implants which can function just as a natural joint. Since the early 19th century, the hip joint arthroplasty has evolved, a...
